An Evening of Jazz, Soul and Standout Performances at Cabaret Evening
On Monday, pupils took to the stage for this year’s Cabaret Evening, sharing an impressive range of musical talent with the audience.
The evening opened in style with the Big Band performing Play That Funky Music, immediately setting the tone for a lively and varied programme. Throughout the evening, a mix of ensembles and soloists kept the audience thoroughly entertained, with performances ranging from jazz classics to musical theatre and contemporary favourites.
Student-led groups were a real highlight. Jigsaw made a confident debut with the technically demanding Caravan, while Roll With It returned to the stage with a characterful performance of Hit the Road Jack, which was warmly received.
Vocal performances brought some particularly memorable moments. UVVE (Upper Voices Vocal Ensemble), fresh from their success at the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival, performed a beautifully blended A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square. This was followed by a striking performance of Creep from DMC, with both groups performing with confidence and a strong sense of style. A duet of For Good from Wicked by Kez Colthurst and Kitty Hildred offered a quieter moment in the programme, performed with real care and sensitivity.
There were plenty of other standout performances from the Senior Jazz Ensemble and soloists, including Cry Me a River, Fever and Copacabana, each performed with confidence and clear enjoyment.
The evening concluded with Sasha Penlington’s powerful rendition of Hallelujah, I Love Him So, bringing the concert to a memorable close.
It was a genuinely enjoyable evening which reflected just how much musical talent there is across RGS Worcester. Pupils performed with confidence and enthusiasm, clearly enjoying the opportunity to share their work with an appreciative audience. Well done to everyone involved for such a polished and engaging performance.
