RGS Big Band Impresses at The Elms Jazz and Swing Evening
On Friday 6 March, the RGS Big Band performed at The Elms School’s Swing and Jazz Evening.
Following a short rehearsal and a performance by Shrewsbury School, the RGS Big Band took to the stage with a confident and well-executed set. The evening opened with Dizzy Gillespie’s A Night in Tunisia, followed by Doxy.
The band’s vocalists delivered a series of standout performances. Kieran Lilley performed Phil Collins’ Against All Odds, while Sasha Penlington presented Hallelujah I Love Her So. Kitty Hildred also performed Duke Ellington’s It Don’t Mean a Thing, including an impressive scat section.
Supported by a strong rhythm section, the band closed with Play That Funky Music, bringing the evening to an energetic and well-received conclusion.
Director of Music, Mr Jamie Conway said: “I was incredibly proud to see the RGS Big Band, led by Mr Adlington, getting everyone up on their feet dancing at Friday’s event. There’s no better feeling than enjoying music together with others and the students embodied this. It is fantastic to see them performing with such enthusiasm. Well done to all involved.”
Thank you to The Elms School for hosting such an enjoyable evening and well done to all involved!
