RGS Delivers Partnerships Robotics Workshop at Hagley Catholic Primary School
As part of the School’s educational partnerships programme, RGS Worcester pupils and staff recently visited Hagley Catholic Primary School to deliver a robotics workshop for Year Five pupils, introducing key concepts in coding and mathematics.
The session took place across three classrooms simultaneously, with nearly 90 pupils taking part. Using a set of Sphero robots and iPads, pupils were guided through a series of activities designed to develop their understanding of programming and geometry.
Working with block-based coding, pupils learned how to control their robots with precision. Applying their knowledge of interior and exterior angles, they programmed the Spheros to move in geometric patterns, including squares and triangles.
Pupils also explored more advanced features, including programming the Sphero displays to show scrolling text and simple animations. These activities provided an opportunity to translate mathematical understanding into practical application.
RGS Worcester’s Digital Leaders played an important role throughout the session, supporting pupils in each classroom as they refined their code and solved challenges. Their guidance helped ensure all pupils were able to engage fully with the tasks.
This educational partnership visit provided a valuable opportunity to share expertise beyond the School, while supporting younger pupils in developing confidence in coding and problem-solving.
