1st XI Hockey Team Set the Tone for a Promising Season Ahead
The RGS Worcester Under 18 Girls’ Hockey team began their 2025/26 season in style with a highly productive and inspiring pre-season programme. Taking full advantage of the late August break, the squad came together for two intensive training sessions focused on sharpening core skills, developing cohesive unit play, and embedding tactical frameworks for the season ahead.
Following these sessions, the team hosted the inaugural RGS Cup, welcoming RGS Newcastle for what turned out to be a dominant opening performance. The RGS Worcester 1st XI impressed with a convincing 5-0 win, setting the standard for the season to come. Their momentum continued with another confident 6-1 victory over Hereford, demonstrating both attacking flair and defensive discipline.
The highlight of pre-season came with a weekend trip to Nottingham, where the team participated in a competitive tournament featuring 24 schools from across the country. Across six matches in two days, the girls showcased skill, resilience and strong team spirit. They were unbeaten in their pool matches and then won their semi-final. Off the pitch, team-building activities, including a memorable escape room challenge, helped forge even stronger bonds among the players.
Their performances on the field culminated in RGS Worcester’s strongest-ever finish in the tournament, narrowly missing out in the final to a strong Yarm school team. This remarkable achievement in such a large and competitive field is a reflection of the quality, depth and determination within this year’s senior squad.
The pre-season campaign has laid a solid foundation for what promises to be an exciting season. The 1st XI went on to win 8-0 against Hereford Cathedral School last Saturday and play under lights this evening at our International Hockey Centre against Haberdashers’ Monmouth School. With such talent and togetherness already on display, there is every reason to be optimistic about what lies ahead for the Under 18 Girls as they extend their unbeaten record at Home into a second season.
