Stretching Mind and Body at the RGS Yoga Club
Pupils in the Lower School can now come along to a new lunchtime Yoga Club, led by Teacher of English, Ms Rhodes. The new club provides an opportunity for RGS pupils to try out and discover both the physical and mental benefits that yoga offers.
Ms Rhodes says: “Whether you are feeling worried about your upcoming exams or feeling really inflexible, or perhaps you’re super bendy and would like to have the opportunity to see what shapes you can get your body to make, whatever your body size, shape, flexibility or gender, yoga can offer something for you.
There are also mental benefits of yoga, which include lowered stress, improved concentration and a more positive mindset; the physical benefits include greater flexibility, improved strength and fewer injuries.
It’s also not just for girls: former Manchester United footballer Ryan Giggs puts the length of his playing career down to his regular yoga work which prevented him from getting injured as much. All pupils in Years Seven and Eight are welcome, why not come along at lunchtime on Thursdays in the Dance Studio?”
The new club is certainly a hit, with pupils adding: “It’s really fun and relaxing and helps with anxiety.”
