Theo Takes the Next Step Towards Professional Football Dream
RGS Worcester is proud to share the exciting news that Year Eleven pupil Theo Houston has been awarded a two-year Scholarship with Aston Villa Football Club. Confirmed during the October Half term, this early offer recognises Theo’s talent, hard work and potential, with his full-time scholarship commencing on 1 July 2025.
Theo joined Aston Villa’s Academy as an Under 13, having been scouted from grassroots Football. Since then, he has developed into a confident and commanding goalkeeper, praised by the club for his strong shot-stopping ability and presence on the pitch. His early Scholarship offer marks him out as a standout player in the Academy’s Under 18s cohort.
Following the completion of his GCSEs this summer, Theo will relocate to live closer to the club’s Academy training ground in Tamworth, where he will balance his Football commitments with academic study towards a BTEC in Sport. The Scholarship also includes a training allowance and Theo is eager to embrace every opportunity that comes with this next chapter.
Reflecting on the announcement, Theo said, “I am delighted to have earned a Scholarship. I have worked extremely hard since signing at Aston Villa as an Under 13. It’s not always easy to balance training and schoolwork, but RGS has been brilliant in helping me manage the demands of both. I’m very grateful for all the support I have received. I will be sad to leave RGS, but becoming a Scholar at Villa is a step closer to my dream of being a professional footballer, so I’ll be giving it everything I’ve got.”
Theo’s family also shared their pride in his achievements and expressed their thanks to the staff at RGS for the encouragement and flexibility that have supported his journey so far. While Theo’s move to full-time Football will mark the end of his time at the School, his success is a testament to his determination, humility and drive, qualities that have been widely admired throughout his time at RGS.
We look forward to following Theo’s progress and wish him every success as he takes this exciting step toward a future in professional Football.
