RGS Worcester Claims Victory in the Modus Challenge Cup at Sixways Stadium
RGS Worcester’s 1st XV secured a thrilling 21-20 victory over King’s Worcester in Wednesday night’s prestigious Modus Challenge Cup Match at Sixways Stadium, lifting the trophy in front of a packed and energetic crowd of more than 3,000 supporters.
The annual derby fixture, one of the most anticipated school sporting events in Worcestershire, saw RGS deliver a performance full of determination, discipline and attacking quality. Led with outstanding leadership by Captain Liam Chadwick, the team controlled key moments and showed exceptional teamwork throughout a fiercely competitive contest.
RGS made a strong start with the opening try from Mylo Secker, before Nikolas Izamis added two decisive tries in the second half. All three tries were confidently converted by Will Sutherland, whose accuracy from the tee ultimately proved the difference in a match where every point mattered.
This season also marked a significant development for RGS Worcester’s Rugby programme through its role as the official Education Partner of Worcester Warriors. The Senior squad benefitted from unique training opportunities at Sixways, including a coaching session led by Worcester Warriors Head Coach Matt Everard. RGS has also provided Rugby training opportunities for a number of Worcestershire schools.

Most importantly, I am incredibly proud of our RGS Worcester squad. Their work ethic, togetherness and resilience have been exceptional and these qualities were evident throughout the match. To lift the Modus Challenge Cup is a special achievement, the support from the crowd created an atmosphere the boys will never forget.”
The team displayed defensive resilience and attacking flair throughout, demonstrating the strength of the Rugby pathway at RGS Worcester and the depth of talent progressing through the School.
RGS Worcester extended their thanks to King’s School Worcester for a competitive and hard-fought match that reflected the long-standing and respectful sporting rivalry between the two schools. Headmaster, Mr John Pitt, commented: “The Modus Challenge Cup match is an extraordinary event for two school communities and a wonderful opportunity for pupils to play at a prestigious venue in front of a large crowd of spectators. The team displayed exceptional RGS grit and determination to come through to win such a competitive match of high-quality Rugby. Very well done to the players and thank you to everyone from both schools and from Sixways for providing this opportunity and for supporting the pupils. It was a showcase for the very best in school sport.”
The atmosphere at Sixways was electric, with thousands of pupils, families, staff and alumni cheering passionately from the stands, a display of school spirit that the players described as “incredible”.
