RGS Rowers Excel at British Indoor Championships
RGS rowers delivered an exceptional display of determination and talent at the recent British Rowing Indoor Championships, competing against some of the strongest Rowing schools and clubs from across the country. With an impressive squad of 25 rowers representing the School, the team demonstrated both depth and consistency across all age groups.
The Championships produced several headline achievements, including four Top 10 national finishes. In Year Ten, Elsa Somer achieved an outstanding fourth place in the 5-minute race, finishing just one metre shy of a national medal. Sixth Form rower Freddie Fielding produced a powerful performance in the premier 2000m event, securing sixth place. In the younger age groups, Orla Roundell impressed with an eighth-place finish in the Year Nine 4-minute race, while Year Ten’s Xanthe Carrington-Abraham also earned a national Top 10 ranking in the 5 minute category.
Strong performances continued throughout the squads. In the Sixth Form, alongside Freddie’s top-six finish, Senior Boys Mati Stendall and Oliver Maggs delivered consistent and competitive times, while Lottie Richardson led the Senior Girls with commitment in the demanding 2000m race. The Year Eleven girls faced a challenging six-minute endurance test, where Amelia Gutteridge and Emily Pipe were particularly impressive, crossing the finish within seconds of one another in a tightly packed field. Year Ten rowers maintained the School’s momentum, with boys Simon Herbert and Jack Doy producing promising results and the girls’ squad contributing two of the top national placements. In Year Nine, the depth of emerging talent was clear as Zachary Noakes secured 12th place in the boys’ division, complementing Orla’s success for the girls.
Throughout the Championships, rowers demonstrated exceptional attitude, discipline and camaraderie, reflecting the hard work they have invested in training. Congratulations to everyone involved on your achievements!
