Pupil Librarians Inspired by Author Visit at The Hive
RGS Worcester pupil librarians recently attended the Federation of Children’s Book Groups Summer Event at The Hive, joining pupils from several local schools for a day of literary activities and discussion.
During the visit, pupils took part in a guided tour of The Hive’s facilities, an engaging Book Blitz session and a variety of book-themed activities created by the attending schools. The event provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to share their love of reading, discover new titles and connect with other young readers.
A particular highlight of the day was a fascinating presentation by children’s author Kate Wells, also known as Kate Poels for her children’s books. Pupils were especially pleased to learn that Kate is a former Alice Ottley pupil. During her interactive session, Kate spoke about her book, ‘On the Wings of the Stars’, encouraging pupils to think carefully about its themes and ideas. Our pupil librarians engaged enthusiastically throughout, answering questions thoughtfully and demonstrating their passion for reading.
The visit concluded with a hands-on experience at Waterstones, where pupil librarians were given the opportunity to select new books for the School library. They carefully considered which titles would appeal to their fellow pupils, helping to expand and enrich the library collection.
Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day, particularly the opportunity to choose new books for the School library. We look forward to seeing everyone enjoy the excellent new additions to the library collection.
