Modus Challenge Cup Named ‘Fixture of the Year’
RGS Worcester’s memorable Modus Challenge Cup victory last December has received national recognition after the fixture was named ‘Fixture of the Year’ at the inaugural NextGenXV School Rugby Awards.
The annual Modus Challenge Cup is one of the highlights of the RGS sporting calendar, giving pupils the opportunity to represent the School at Sixways Stadium in front of a large crowd of pupils, families, staff, alumni and supporters. This latest recognition celebrates the Rugby played on the pitch as well as the scale, atmosphere and sense of occasion surrounding the fixture.
Announcing the Award, the NextGenXV commentators praised the venue, attendance and atmosphere generated by the event, suggesting that the Modus Challenge Cup “might be on the short-list every year” because of the occasion it creates.
RGS Worcester’s wider programme of high-profile sporting fixtures also received recognition during the Awards. Reflecting on ‘Superball’, the commentators described the atmosphere at the University of Worcester Arena as “off the chart”. Earlier this year, a record crowd of 1,600 watched RGS secure victories in both the 1st and 2nd VII Netball fixtures, creating another memorable evening of School Sport.
To have both events recognised nationally reflects the exceptional support surrounding Sport at RGS Worcester and the opportunities provided for pupils to compete in high-profile venues and experience occasions they will remember long after leaving the School.
With the new Rugby season now underway, the Award provides a fitting reminder of last season’s achievements and an exciting starting point for the year ahead. The season also marks a new chapter for RGS Rugby, with former Worcester Warriors player, Mr Chris Pennell, joining the School as Head of Rugby. This year’s Modus Challenge Cup will take place on Wednesday 9 December, when RGS Worcester will once again return to Sixways for another memorable evening of School Rugby.
Congratulations to the players, coaches and everyone involved in making the Modus Challenge Cup such a special fixture for the RGS community.
