Karate Competition Success
Last month Year Nine pupil, Rosa Rega participated in two Karate competitions with the Worcestershire Karate Squad. On 15 April she competed in the EWSKA Open Karate Competition held in Cheslyn Hay, Remarkably, Rosa secured the Gold medal in her age category for individual Kata, as well as winning Gold in team kata and claiming Silver in pairs. Reflecting on her performance, Rosa said, “This competition was a great opportunity and gave me the chance to gain more confidence ready for Berlin.”
On 29 April, Rosa and Worcestershire Karate Squad took part in the International German Wado Cup 2023 which took place in Berlin, their first international competition. Rosa competed in the Under 16 individual Kata and team Kata categories. In her individual Kata, Rosa achieved the highest score in her pool propelling her into the Final, where she emerged victorious with the Gold medal, triumphing over a competitor from another English club. Additionally, Rosa’s team also claimed Gold for the team Kata. These exceptional achievements are the result of countless hours of training and dedication to the sport as well as endless support from coaches and teammates.
Rosa spoke of the experience, saying, “Participating in an international competition was a brilliant opportunity for me. It was a fantastic experience and great to be part of such a nice and supportive team. To travel and compete together was a massive privilege, and to learn more about a different country, as well as competing in the sport made for an amazing experience. Along the way I have gained more confidence and new skills such as sportsmanship and teamwork.”
