Emma swings into Tennis success at Club and County
As the tennis season hits its peak, Emma McKay, Lower Sixth, has had an exceptional run playing at both County and Club levels. Emma’s Tennis journey started from local (Grade 5) to development (Grade 4), and now she regularly competes at County level (Grade 3) as a member of the Under 18 Girls County Team representing Herefordshire & Worcestershire.
In February, Emma participated in the prestigious 12 Counties Championships, representing Herefordshire & Worcestershire, where she won all of her matches. In her first match against Leicestershire, Emma defeated their Number 3 player in straight sets. In the second match, Emma displayed tremendous resilience against Bedfordshire, winning six games in a row in the second set to clinch the match 5-3, 4-0. In the third tie against the strongest team, Cambridgeshire, Emma won comfortably 4-0, 4-1.
In March, Emma played as part of the Under 18 Girls County Cup team against Somerset, where she won her Doubles match with her partner in straight sets before playing a Singles match against Staffordshire. Over Easter, Emma won a Grade 3 match.
This season, Emma aims to enhance her Singles game by participating in more Grade 3 (County) level tournaments. We wish her the best of luck in her ‘Play Your Way to Wimbledon’ campaign, in which she reached the Finals last year! Emma has recently made it through the Regional round and we eagerly anticipate hearing about Emma’s further progress in this national tournament.
