Jilly’s Joggers
Mrs Jilly Witcomb, Director of Drama, explains the challenge she set her Tutor group at the beginning of this term:
“In January, my Lower Sixth Tutor group and I decided to set ourselves a joint challenge: to keep active and support each other through ‘lockdown’ by running, cycling, walking and rowing 2020km between us, aiming to raise £2020 for the Worcester Myriad Centre.
The Myriad Centre is a fantastic local charity which offers young people with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities, programmes to unlock all of life’s possibilities and potential as they make the transition to adulthood.
‘Lockdown’ has affected everyone in different ways and setting a challenge such as this has so many personal advantages as well as raising funds; keeping mentally and physically healthy, team work, determination and challenging ourselves. Our joint Strava club has helped us all keep in touch and respond with ‘Kudos’ every time another kilometre is covered by a member of the Tutor group, whether from a quick 1km walk to the shops or a 54km bike ride. I am incredibly proud of the pupils and how they have pulled together during this time. This challenge has certainly helped my motivation, when the alarm goes off for an early morning run in the snow!
We have every confidence that we will cover the distance we have set ourselves by 21 February. At the time of writing, we are on 1280km with 18 days to go. Every kilometre helps and we also hope to achieve our target fundraising amount to match our distance run.
Please do take a look at our JustGiving page to see how far we have travelled.”
