From the Drama Classroom to Rock & Roll
Most members of the RGS community will know Mr Garrity as a Drama teacher, but outside School he swaps the classroom for the rehearsal room and stage, performing as lead guitarist with Birmingham-based indie rock band Future Fires.
Known for their energetic guitar-driven sound, Future Fires have been building their place within the UK independent music scene. The band were recognised by Alt Press Magazine in 2020, when they were named among its Top 10 British Guitar Rock Bands.
Future Fires have also played a number of notable shows, including a main-stage performance at Coventry’s Godiva Festival in 2019, sharing the bill with The Amazons and Carl Barat. Other highlights have included supporting Wendy James of Transvision Vamp at Birmingham’s O2 Institute in 2021, as well as performing alongside bands including The Clause and Headwired.
More recently, Future Fires released their latest single, Don’t Go Anywhere, on Friday 25 September. The track is now available on Spotify and other major streaming platforms, marking the band’s latest release as they look ahead to further live performances.
For Mr Garrity, being part of Future Fires provides another creative outlet alongside his work within the RGS Drama Department, where teaching, directing and performance are already an important part of School life.
The band are now looking ahead to 2026/27, with plans to pursue further support slots, local showcases and festival opportunities. We wish Mr Garrity and his fellow band members every success with their latest release and future performances.
