French Flash Fiction Award from Oxford University
Katy Marsh, Year Eleven, has been given a ‘Highly Commended’ Award for submitting a short story to the Oxford University French Flash Fiction Competition organised by the Faculty of Medieval and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford.
They received almost five hundred entries to the competition this year and the standard was exceptionally high: the judges commented on how difficult it was to choose the winners, given the excellent quality of all the stories. Her story will be published on their online blog over the next few months: (https://bookshelf.mml.ox.ac.uk/).
Here is a short introduction to the story that Katy wrote: “I wrote about books and the power of words because I think that words have an often unappreciated ability to create magical reprieves from the real world. Books can be true escapes, as well as opening your eyes to the world.”
