England Under 23 Selection for Upper Sixth Student Alice Atkinson
Congratulations to Alice Atkinson, Upper Sixth, who has achieved the astonishing feat of being selected for the Under 23 England Hockey squad at the age of eighteen.
Alice started training with the England Under 18 squad at sixteen years of age. She will now join the Under 23 squad for the first time next week and will participate in training camps and represent the Under 23 squad at fixtures to continue her Hockey development.
Alice joined RGS The Grange in Year One and started playing Hockey when she joined the School. She currently plays for Stourport Hockey Club and represents RGS Worcester in the Hockey 1st team and Netball 1st team; she is also a member of the RGS Athlete Development Programme (ADP) and is currently on the ‘Elite’ Pathway. The ‘Elite’ pathway athletes receive an individual mentor, with whom they meet fortnightly to discuss their progress, nutrition, psychology, time management, game analysis and leadership qualities.
Alice, who plans to pursue a professional Hockey career, said: “I was so excited to find out the news that I have been selected. I am a little nervous of course, but I can’t wait to continue my training and be part of the England squad”.
RGS Worcester Head of Hockey, Miss Leanne Bennett comments: “This is fantastic news for Alice who has put in so much hard work to achieve this. Having seen Alice begin her Hockey career at RGS The Grange and flourish in both school and club National League Hockey over the years, we are incredibly proud of her achievements so far. She is a talented yet humble player, who always supports her team and her peers”.
Congratulations to Alice on her England selection, and we wish her every success for her forthcoming fixtures and training camps with the England Under 23 squad, as well as success on Saturday evening as part of the ‘Superball’ squad.
