Community, Giving and Making a Difference
Throughout the Michaelmas term, pupils and staff across The RGS Family of Schools demonstrated a strong and sustained commitment to charitable giving, supporting a wide range of local and national causes through a programme of fundraising and community initiatives. This round-up reflects the generosity and collective effort shown during the first term of the academic year.
Fundraising activities included support for Macmillan Cancer Support through participation in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which raised £385. At the Lower School Harvest Festival, pupils donated numerous large boxes of food to Maggs Day Centre, while ongoing collections for Worcester Foodbank produced several boxes of food and toiletries, alongside £40 in supermarket vouchers. Together, these donations provided valuable support to families and individuals within the local community.
A variety of events held across the term, including a Non-Uniform Day, raised an impressive £2,050 for BBC Children in Need. Pupils also supported the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, contributed £195 to Wooden Spoon at the Modus Cup match, and raised over £1,500 for Worcester Snoezelen during the Carol Service and from the raffle in the Sixth Form Centre. In the lead-up to Christmas, the DMCs, the School’s all-male a cappella group, visited the Myriad Centre, where they performed a selection of festive songs for clients, extending the School’s charitable work beyond fundraising alone.
The Charity Committee selected Acorns Children’s Hospice as the chosen charity for the academic year, raising £890 from the Christmas Jumper Day on the final day of term held in support of this cause. Staff raised £165 for St Richard’s Hospice by sending Christmas cards electronically. Collections of non-perishable food items and toiletries for Worcester Foodbank were organised through form groups, with many pupils choosing to donate in place of, or alongside, Secret Santa.
As the School looks ahead to the remainder of the academic year, last term’s efforts set a strong foundation for continued charitable support. Through both fundraising and service, pupils and staff will continue to support those in need and uphold the values of responsibility, empathy and community that define The RGS Worcester Family of Schools.
