Anticipation Builds Ahead of the 18th Modus Challenge Cup Fixture
Excitement is building at RGS as the 1st XV Rugby squad prepares to take on King’s School in this year’s greatly anticipated Modus Challenge Cup match. The fixture, one of the highlights of the School calendar, will take place at Sixways Stadium on Wednesday 10 December, with kick-off at 5.30pm.
Now in its 18th year, the Modus Challenge Cup fixture offers both teams the opportunity to showcase their skill, physicality and determination on one of the region’s most iconic Rugby stages. Playing at Sixways Stadium is an experience the squad values deeply, and there is a strong sense of anticipation across the School community as players and supporters look ahead to Wednesday evening.
Captain Liam Chadwick shared his thoughts ahead of the match: “As we head into the Modus Challenge Cup fixture, the atmosphere amongst the squad is electric. Every player has shown unwavering commitment in training, dedicating themselves to the game plan and to each other. This cup holds a special place in our School’s rugby history, and the anticipation of playing such a prestigious match is something we’ve been building towards since the first session of the year. To step onto the pitch at Sixways Stadium and represent our School is the ultimate privilege. We know the history, and we know the opportunity this presents. Playing in the Modus Cup match is something that we will treasure long after the final whistle blows.”
Vice-Captain Monty Jones added: “As we head towards this year’s Modus Challenge Cup match, the energy in the squad is high, training has been competitive and full of intent, which has created stronger connections within the team. A local derby like this means everything to the boys, and we’re ready to bring our physicality and pride to the pitch on Wednesday. Representing RGS Worcester at Sixways is a huge honour, and we’re determined to deliver a performance worthy of the badge in front of our families, friends, and the whole School community. We can’t wait to see everyone at Sixways, cheering us on and bringing the whole School together, showing the values and spirit that make RGS so special: see you there!”
Vice-Captain Harry Heaton also commented: “Having built this team over the last two seasons, next Wednesday represents the culmination of everything we’ve worked for. Our efforts off the field, during training and during every match have led us to be the team we are now. The Modus Challenge Cup is the height of our season and our chance to prove to everyone how far we have come. We are both excited and prepared for the opportunity to play in front of the RGS community and have the upmost confidence in what we are able to achieve. We hope that as many RGS supporters as possible can make the journey to Sixways to support us on the day.”
