A Morning of Insight and Preparation for Oxbridge and Beyond
In September, we welcomed students and parents to our first UCAS Competitive Entry Morning, designed for applicants to Oxford and Cambridge and to competitive courses such as Medicine, Veterinary Science and Dentistry. The morning provided clear guidance, practical preparation, and inspiration for those navigating one of the most demanding application processes in higher education.
The day began with an address from the Headmaster, who outlined the challenges and opportunities of applying to the UK’s most selective universities. School staff then discussed the important role of parents in supporting applicants, encouraging them to provide a balance and independence as students prepare for interviews and admissions tests.
A highlight of the programme was a Q&A session with four recent alumni:
- Arianne Eddy (Classics, Oxford)
- George Garrity (History, Cambridge)
- Freddie Davies (Natural Sciences, Cambridge)
- Ben Chadwick (Medicine, Keele)
They shared their experiences of the application process, from preparing for admissions tests to managing interview nerves, and reflected on life at university. Their honest insights into both the challenges and rewards of their courses gave current applicants valuable perspective and reassurance.
Students then attended a seminar on interview technique, including demonstration interviews. These illustrated how interviewers test applicants’ ability to think critically and adapt to unfamiliar problems. Guidance was also given on preparing for remote interviews, which remain common across universities.
The morning concluded with a series of specialist seminars for students preparing for admissions tests, including the MAT, TMUA, PAT, ESAT, and LNAT, as well as Medicine applicants.
The morning was both practical and motivating, equipping students with strategies for the months ahead and helping parents understand how best to support them. The School is especially grateful to the four alumni, Arianne Eddy, George Garrity, Freddie Davies, and Ben Chadwick, for generously sharing their time and experience.
The event closed with a clear message: success in competitive university applications is built not only on academic ability but also on curiosity, resilience and the support of the school community.

We warmly invite prospective students and their families to find out more about the opportunities available in the Sixth Form at our Open Morning this Saturday, where you can explore life in the RGS Worcester Sixth Form and discover how we support students to excel academically and prepare for their future beyond school.
If you are not able to visit us on our Open Morning, we would be delighted to book a school day visit to the School for you and your family, during which you will be given a school tour and meet the Headmaster. Please complete the School tour on our admissions portal and we will be in touch.
