A Memorable Autumn Concert Showcasing Talent Across the School
Perrins Hall was filled with excitement on Wednesday 5 November as more than 180 pupils took to the stage for this year’s Autumn Concert. Performed twice to meet audience demand, the evening brought together musicians from every year group and offered a programme that showcased the breadth and quality of music at RGS Worcester.
The concert opened with the Wind Band’s atmospheric performance of Lalo Schifrin’s Mission: Impossible theme, followed by the Renaissance dance La Mourisque. Guitar Group then presented a warm and blended interpretation of Bill Withers’ Lean On Me, before Intermediate Strings delivered spirited performances of ABBA’s Mamma Mia and Hans Zimmer’s The Black Pearl. Orchestra continued in similar style with Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, played with precision and flair, and the first half concluded with Senior Jazz’s smooth rendition of Sonny Rollins’ Alfie’s Theme.
A strong choral programme followed. Junior Choir offered thoughtful performances of The Beatles’ Let It Be and the vibrant Golden from KPop Demon Hunters, sung with energy and confidence. Chamber Choir then provided an engaging contrast with light-hearted nostalgia in The Teddy Bears’ Picnic and a powerful account of Ev’ry Time I Feel The Spirit, accompanied by Sihan on piano. Senior Choir brought the evening to a close with two much-loved favourites, Oh Happy Day and Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’, supported by the house band of Sasha, Will and Tom.
The commitment and enjoyment of the pupils were evident throughout, and the concert was warmly received by both audiences. Our thanks go to the performers, staff, instrumental teachers and the Music Department team, led by Mr Jamie Conway with support from Mrs Tilling, Mr Adlington and Mr Lennon, for preparing such an uplifting event.
We look forward to welcoming families to our upcoming musical events, including the production of the musical ‘The Band’ later this month, Christmas with the Big Band on 5 December, and the Carol Service at Worcester Cathedral on 8 December.
Mr Jamie Conway, Director of Music
