Head of Textiles judges National Competition
RGS Worcester’s Textiles Department continues to thrive, with many pupils entering, and winning national competitions such as Young Fashion Designer UK and taking up Fashion and Textile courses at many leading universities. Head of Department, Mrs Bishop has also forged strong connections between RGS Textiles and local and national industry professionals, to enhance and further the opportunity for RGS pupils.
Mrs Bishop has gained such recognition in the area of Textiles education, that she has been asked to support the work of The Textiles Skills Centre as an affiliate member. The centre is a hub for Textiles teachers and practitioners, providing training, and leading the way in a textiles education to reflect the work of this rapidly changing industry.
Mrs Bishop has also been asked to work with the focus group for the national and international competition ‘Wool4School’. This competition is run by the Woolmark company, and promotes wool fibre and technology advances in woollen fabric manufacture and encourages fashion students to create innovative designs using technical woollen fabrics.
In addition, Mrs Bishop has been asked to judge the Fashion Icon competition. This national competition invites students to produce moodboards and design pages based on a specific area of fashion design. The final, which is usually held at The Genting Arena (NEC), will take place via Zoom this year and the students will showcase the final garments that they have made independently.
Mrs Bishop said: “It is such an honour to be invited to take part in such events. I have always been passionate about education in fashion and textiles and to support pupils as they go on to have successful careers in our diverse and ever-changing industry.”
