On Monday evening, the RGS Chamber Choir enjoyed a very successful trip to Oxford to sing Evensong in Christ Church Cathedral. The official Cathedral of the ‘City of Spires’, Christ Church Cathedral is grand and intimate at the same time, making it a superb and inspirational space for the Choir to sing. Twenty-five students from the Chamber Choir, from Years Nine to Upper Sixth, were joined by Dr Ehlers, Mr Hallett and Mrs Spencer to form the Choir for the service, conducted by Mr Soman. The Choir performed some new repertoires, including Charles Villiers Stanford’s resplendent C major settings of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis and Edward Bairstow’s rich and beautiful anthem ‘I Sat Down Under His Shadow’. The latter piece has required much detailed work this term to enable the Choir to sing it confidently, which they did in abundance on Monday evening. This was the final Evensong trip for the Upper Sixth students as part of the Chamber Choir and was thoroughly enjoyed by students, teachers and congregation members alike.
