Elsie-Rose Shines at Sunshine Festival
Every year, RGS Worcester hosts the Worcester Competitive Arts Festival (WCAF). This festival provides a platform for amateur performers of all ages to showcase their talents in a supportive and friendly environment, with the chance to compete for prestigious cups, medals, and trophies.
This year, on Sunday 19 March, the Rock and Pop classes of WCAF took place at The Marrs Bar music venue in Worcester. Amidst stiff competition, Year Ten pupil Elsie-Rose Lyons emerged triumphant, clinching the Gold award in the Rock/Pop 12-14 Years category with her captivating rendition of ‘Love in the Dark’ by Adele.
Through her exceptional performance at WCAF, Elsie-Rose was offered an opportunity to perform on the Kids stage at the Sunshine Music Festival in Upton-upon-Severn. After her first set, the Kids stage crew, were so impressed they asked the organiser of the Sunshine Festival to watch her second set. He was equally impressed and as such invited Elsie-Rose to perform on the main stage that evening following the Festival headline act, Ronan Keating, in front of an audience of 6,000 festival-goers!
By the end of her performance, the crowd was chanting her name and requesting more of her singing.
Elsie-Rose said of the experience “I’m still coming down to earth after what was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I was so nervous but the crowd were so supportive, cheering and chanting my name. It was incredible and I’ve never had a feeling like it! I was signing autographs and being asked for my picture with people who had seen my performance. I would like to thank the WCAF and everyone at the Sunshine Festival”
As a result of this, Elsie-Rose has been asked to perform at a number of corporate events. Elsie-Rose’s composure and humility reflect the nurturing environment of RGS which has given her the inner confidence to take on such a daunting challenge. This experience is testament to her hard work and ability, supported by our School’s commitment to excellence, creativity, and character development.
The RGS community congratulates Elsie-Rose on her achievement and wishes her continued success in her Music career.
