Cricketers Enjoy Pre-Season India Tour
On Thursday 16 February, the RGS Worcester 1st and 2nd XI Cricket squads departed for a pre-season Tour of India.
The first three days of the Tour were spent in Delhi. This included a training session on arrival, a rickshaw ride around Old Delhi and watching part of Day Two of the India vs Australia test match in the lively Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Both RGS teams played a T20 fixture and a 40 over fixture in Delhi. Notable performances from the 1st XI victory against Pathways International School included Ben Allen scoring 101 not out, Harvey Shaw scoring 58 not out and a 5-wicket haul for Fionn Baker.
The squads then travelled to Agra and had a guided tour of the magnificent Taj Mahal as well as Agra Fort, also known as the Red Fort. From Agra, the group travelled south to the Ranthambore National Park where they enjoyed a jeep safari.
The final leg of the Tour was spent in the city of Jaipur, where both teams played two competitive fixtures. The cricketers also visited the Amber Fort and enjoyed an elephant ride and visited the local bazaar in Jaipur.
The Tour was a fantastic experience and will undoubtedly have provided many lifelong memories. From a cricketing perspective, the 1st XI won two out of four fixtures which were played in challenging conditions. The 2nd XI also enjoyed playing 4 competitive fixtures. The Tour has enabled RGS cricketers to develop their individual skills and to play as a team and enjoy working together. We hope that the experience will help the 1st and 2nd XI to hit the ground running when the season starts in April.
On behalf of the players, we would like to thank Mr Newport, Mr Fowles, Mr Allen and Mr Tanner for organising and supporting such a fantastic Cricket tour. Thank you also to our Sponsors for supporting our Cricket Tour.
We hope that everybody had a thoroughly enjoyable time and wish you all the best of luck for the forthcoming Cricket season.
