Challenge Cup at Sixways Stadium
Excitement is mounting at RGS as the 1st XI Football team prepares to compete in this year’s Challenge Cup. The RGS Worcester team will play against King’s School at Sixways Stadium, home of the Worcester Warriors, on Wednesday 16 February.
This annual event is very much a sporting highlight of the school calendar, providing an opportunity for both teams to showcase their skills on the pitch, and the opportunity to play at a Premier sports ground is one that the players and pupils will never forget. With the event not being able to be played last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year’s game will be even more special and eagerly awaited.
Head of Football, Mr Gary Leeds, said: “The 1st XI Football team have had a promising start to the season and have been very much looking forward to playing in this year’s Challenge Cup. It is set to be a fantastic occasion and to welcome spectators and supporters to Sixways Stadium on the 16 February will be superb.”
1st XI Football Captain, Freddie Nock adds: “The FA Cup final is a day of celebration, anticipation and glorious possibilities. It’s the one fixture in the calendar, usually bathed in sunshine, which has hope and excitement in equal measure. I can’t promise sunshine for this year’s Challenge Cup but there is an abundance of hope and excitement within the team in the build up to this game. To lead out the 1st XI Football team onto the hallowed ‘turf’ at Sixways Stadium will be a highlight of my football career and time at RGS. The game is always a collision between two juggernauts with a genuine rivalry and, other than the result, this year will be no different.”
Supporters are welcome to attend the match. Tickets are priced at £6 and must be purchased in advance from RGS, online at www.warriors.talent-sport.co.uk, or via the Worcester Warriors Ticket Office.
Kick-off for the match will be at 7.00pm and the gates will open at 5.30pm. Supporters are advised to arrive in good time. Worcester Warriors have again kindly agreed to offer supporters free parking on the night and there will be 800 spaces allocated on a first-come-first served basis at the ground.
In these challenging times, we will continue to work to keep everyone safe and go above and beyond the national guidelines at the time. We ask that all spectators take a Lateral Flow Test in the 24 hours before Kick Off and, if anyone returns a positive LFT result or has any symptoms, they should not attend the match. Government guidance still advises that face coverings should be worn in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with other people you do not normally meet.
Please do join us for an evening of exciting sport and a really enjoyable occasion for both schools.
