A Day of Rugby Skills, Talent and Warm Hospitality
The RGS Worcester Rugby provision is pleased to share an update about our recent involvement in the Midlands West Rugby Academy’s Under 15 and Under 16 trials, held at Flagge Meadow on Wednesday 1 November. The excellent rugby showcased, the welcoming weather, RGS Worcester’s hospitality, first-class facilities and excellent Rugby provision all made for a great day.
The Under 16s started the day at 9.00 am with skills carousels and small-sided games until 1.00 pm. The Under 15s followed, engaging in three intense one-hour fixtures, featuring teams from various Development Player Pathway centres, including Worcestershire 1 and 2, Warwickshire, Shropshire, Birmingham, and Herefordshire.
Four RGS Worcester players represented the School tremendously in the fixtures: Freddie Fletcher, Oscar Ward, Lucas Bray, and Harris Shaw. A further six more RGS Worcester players will be joining these trials in February.
The event was testament to our excellent facilities and strong connections between RGS Worcester and the Midlands West Academy, and also gave an opportunity for RGS Worcester to showcase its exceptional coaching cohort, with Mr Robert Lewis, Mr Keith Fowles, Mr Sam Thomas, Mr Aleki Lutui, Mr Matthew Kvesic, and Mr Matthew Jones all present and having positive interactions with many players, parents and Midlands West Academy coaches and management.
Head of Rugby, Mr Robert Lewis commented: “The day allowed us to foster many positive relationships with many Sporting parents and players, opening the door for potential talent identification for the upcoming two seasons – allowing us to view players from all the surrounding and accessible counties. We hosted a total of 60 Under 16 and 120 Under 15 top players, drawing in a crowd of parents in the hundreds throughout the day. Mr Sean Lloyd and his team deserve plaudits for their work in the impeccable condition of Flagge Meadow for the day, it looked extremely professional and of high standard. The hard work and attention to detail did not go unnoticed by many parents and players. Mr Rich Manning and his team also deserve recognition: they kept players and supporters delighted with the continuous supply of refreshments, including teas, coffees, biscuits, and cakes throughout the event. Both highlighting the warm hospitality that RGS continuously offer. In summary, I believe the event was a resounding success for RGS Worcester and our Rugby Provision with many positive comments following the day. It demonstrated our commitment to nurturing talent, providing top-notch facilities, and creating an atmosphere of warmth and hospitality.”
