RGS Debaters Celebrate Success at KMAT Great Debate
RGS Worcester pupils enjoyed an excellent day at the KMAT Great Debate Coventry and Warwickshire qualification tournament, competing against ten other schools and securing first and third places overall.
The competition challenged participants to demonstrate their debating skills across five rounds, with motions exploring a variety of subjects, from whether fashion trends do more harm than good to whether governments should prioritise space exploration over deep-ocean exploration. Throughout the event, RGS teams demonstrated strong preparation, clear communication and an ability to respond confidently to opposing arguments.
Particular congratulations go to Owen and Jacob, who remained undefeated across all five rounds. One RGS team also secured the overall title in the Guest Tournament, building on the School’s previous involvement in the inaugural KMAT Great Debate National Showcase in April.
Upper Sixth students also contributed to the event as judges, assessing debates between younger competitors and considering the strength of their arguments and responses. Their involvement provided an opportunity to put their own debating experience into practice while supporting the development of younger speakers.
Both RGS teams have qualified for the next stage of the competition, with the KMAT Great Debate Grand Final taking place on Wednesday 14 October.
Congratulations to everyone involved for their excellent performances and contribution to the event. We wish both teams every success in the Grand Final.
