European Week of Languages Brings Learning to Life

Every year on 26 September, schools across Europe mark the European Day of Languages, celebrating the 225 languages spoken across the continent. At RGS Worcester, this annual occasion is extended into a week-long celebration, giving pupils the opportunity to explore the richness of languages and cultures from around the world.

This year’s European Week of Languages offered a wide variety of activities for pupils across the School. House spirit was put to the test in a lively game of Pétanque, while the Dining Hall also joined in the celebrations with internationally inspired dishes across the week. Monday marked World Paella Day with chicken and chorizo paella and three-bean paella, while other themed dishes included nachos, Korean pork and vegetable wholegrain rice and a selection of international sides and desserts.

Across Tutor Groups and Modern Foreign Languages lessons, pupils explored idioms and memes from French, German and Spanish, working together to uncover the meanings behind colourful sayings and cultural jokes.

The week provided an enjoyable celebration of language learning at RGS Worcester, encouraging pupils to explore the creativity and cultural understanding that studying languages can bring.
