Year Eight Bloom into Action at Birmingham Botanical Gardens

Year Eight pupils visited Birmingham Botanical Gardens on Tuesday and Thursday this week for a cross-curricular visit bringing together Geography, Art and Mathematics.

As part of their Art studies, pupils used cameras and sketchbooks to explore the Gardens, capturing natural textures, patterns and close-up details in preparation for their upcoming unit on Insects. Surrounded by the wide variety of plants and landscapes, pupils gathered valuable first-hand research and visual inspiration to support their work back in the classroom.

In Geography, pupils explored different climate zones, discovering tropical rainforest flora and fauna in the hothouses and subtropical glasshouses. This provided an opportunity to see some of the environments and plant life studied in lessons first-hand and develop their understanding beyond the classroom.

The cross-curricular focus continued with a challenging Mathematics trail around the Gardens, with pupils applying their problem-solving and numerical skills as they explored the site. There was also time during the visit to enjoy the playground, café and gift shop.

With excellent weather and plenty of opportunities to connect classroom learning with the world around them, the visits provided an enjoyable and valuable experience for Year Eight. Congratulations to the pupils for their excellent attitude throughout both days and for representing the School so well.
