Royal Grammar Schools Come Together for Cricket Festival
RGS Worcester has been delighted to host the Royal Grammar Schools’ Cricket Festival this week, bringing together six Royal Grammar Schools for five days of competitive Cricket.
Taking place from Monday to Friday this week, the Festival welcomed teams from RGS Colchester, RGS Guildford, RGS High Wycombe, RGS Lancaster, RGS Newcastle and RGS Worcester. Matches were played at a number of venues across Worcestershire, including Flagge Meadow, Old Elizabethans Cricket Club, Bewdley Cricket Club, Kidderminster Cricket Club and Worcester Nomads Cricket Club.
As host School, RGS Worcester was pleased to welcome players, coaches, officials and supporters to the county for a full programme of fixtures. Across the week, teams competed in a round-robin format, with each School facing strong opposition and the table remaining closely contested as the Festival progressed.
For RGS Worcester, the Festival provided a valuable opportunity for the 1st XI to test themselves against other Royal Grammar Schools, playing with commitment and determination throughout the week. The opening fixture against RGS Lancaster at Flagge Meadow set the tone for a competitive Festival, before RGS Worcester went on to produce strong performances in later fixtures, including matches against RGS Colchester and RGS High Wycombe.
Beyond the results, the week has reflected the spirit of the Festival itself. Pupils have had the opportunity to develop as cricketers, experience a demanding schedule of fixtures and enjoy the camaraderie that has long been associated with this annual event. The Festival has also provided a fitting celebration of Cricket at RGS Worcester, with Flagge Meadow once again at the heart of a busy and enjoyable week.
The final day of the Festival took place today, with RGS Worcester facing RGS Newcastle at Flagge Meadow, while RGS Colchester played RGS Guildford at Old Elizabethans Cricket Club and RGS Lancaster faced RGS High Wycombe at Worcester Nomads Cricket Club. The day also included a special Old Elizabethans Cricket Tea, bringing former pupils, players and supporters together as part of the Festival celebrations, alongside a Sponsors’ Lunch in recognition of the generous support given to the event.
Hosting the Festival has been a significant undertaking and one that has brought together many members of the RGS Worcester community. Our thanks go to all visiting Schools, players, coaches, umpires, match managers, grounds staff, catering staff, sponsors, parents, Old Elizabethans and supporters who have contributed to such a successful week.
Congratulations to all of the pupils involved for representing their Schools with commitment, sportsmanship and enthusiasm throughout the Festival. It has been a memorable week of Cricket and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the shared traditions of the Royal Grammar Schools.
