World Cup Gold for Miss Walton
Head of Hockey and Head of the RGS Athlete Development Programme, Miss Sally Walton OLY, represented England at the Indoor Hockey Masters World Cup over the Easter holiday, helping her team secure the World Cup title at the University of Nottingham.
England delivered a series of dominant performances throughout the tournament, progressing confidently through the group stages with victories over the USA, Ireland and France. Miss Walton played a key role in this success, contributing consistently in attack and demonstrating her experience at the highest level.
A closely contested match against Germany in the final pool stage ended in a draw, setting up a rematch in the final against a highly experienced German side featuring several full international players.
The final proved to be a thrilling encounter. After falling behind early on, England responded with determination and composure. Miss Walton delivered an outstanding performance, scoring four goals to secure a 5-4 victory and confirm England as World Cup champions.
Miss Walton finished the tournament as the leading goal scorer across all age groups, with an impressive 19 goals in five matches.
