RGS Fencer Selected to Represent Great Britain
We are delighted to share the exciting news that Lower Sixth pupil, Issy Pottinger, has once again been selected to represent Great Britain in Fencing. Issy will travel to Italy (Napoli) from 10–13 October and Austria (Klagenfurt) from 17–20 October to compete at an international level. This is a fantastic achievement that reflects her dedication, talent and commitment to the sport.
Alongside her international selection, Issy has also successfully completed her Level 1 Coaching qualification in Fencing over the summer. This additional accomplishment not only highlights her skill as an athlete but also her passion for encouraging and guiding younger fencers.
Issy said: “I started fencing at the beginning of Year Eight just as the Covid lockdowns were reducing. If I had been told then, how far I would go I would have never believed it! Yet nowadays as my ability has increased so have my expectations and the awe of my achievements diminish as my bar to success rises. It is easy to forget how far you have come when you are constantly looking for the next challenge. However, as I look back at the pride I felt in being selected and the confidence it has given me in all areas of my school and home life, I want to give back to those that have helped me and inspire the next generation, which is why I am so pleased to have started my coaching qualifications. This should help me to be a guiding mentor for those looking up to my success.”
We congratulate Issy on her continued success and wish her the very best as she prepares to compete in Italy and Austria next month.
