Celebrating a Remarkable Hockey Season at RGS
On Thursday evening, we celebrated the Hockey season at the End of Season Hockey Dinner. The evening was both a celebration of achievements and an opportunity to reflect on the memories and experiences shared throughout the season.
Pupils from Year Nine to the Upper Sixth added a touch of glamour to the Dinner, embracing the occasion in their finest attire. The atmosphere was filled with both joy and a hint of nostalgia, as we said farewell to Head of Hockey, Mrs Leanne Bennett-Howells, who has dedicated 14 years of exceptional service to RGS.
Mrs Bennett-Howells shared her reflections at the Senior Hockey Dinner, expressing a mix of emotions. “It was both a joy and a bittersweet moment for me,” she remarked. Her gratitude extended to the incredible pupils, outstanding Hockey players, and remarkable individuals she has had the privilege of coaching. “I cherished seeing each of you evolve and achieve in your own unique ways,” she said, as she encouraged the pupils to carry the values of teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship beyond the hockey field.
Throughout the evening, speeches resonated with appreciation, culminating in the presentation of awards to exceptional players across different categories. The achievements of individuals, such as Ana Nicholls, Teyah Farmer, and Grace Norris, were acknowledged, showcasing their Resilience, Graciousness, Selflessness, and Willingness.
Special recognition was also extended to Senior players who participated in the Regional Talent Academy. Teyah, Eden, Maddie, Holly, and Fynn received a round of applause, with best wishes for their endeavours to secure spots in the National age group teams.
A heartfelt acknowledgment was reserved for the Upper Sixth pupils, particularly Teyah Farmer, the Captain of the 1st XI team. Mrs Bennett-Howells highlighted Teyah’s exemplary leadership, quoting Serina Wiegman’s description of a great leader—”a person with a clear vision, an understanding of behaviour, and the ability to connect people in a safe and collaborative environment.”
