Terrific Table Tennis: RGS team reaches Regional Finals
The newly formed RGS Worcester Boys Table Tennis A team have had a tremendous launch into playing competitive Table Tennis, reaching the Regional Finals in the Under 13 Tournament on Saturday.
The team had a great start to the day, winning their first two games; 7-1 and 5-3 against competitors Taunton Preparatory School and University College School. The final game of the day saw RGS against tough competitors Reading School, whose strong team included several nationally ranked players. With a final score of 7-1 the journey for RGS sadly came to a close in this tournament, but coming second in the Regional Finals in their debut season is an amazing achievement of which the Year Eight pupils, Jack Whittington, Sihan Fu, Jonathan Abbotts and Lucas Jones should feel very proud.
Sports Assistant, Mr Stewart Fleming, said: “All the boys should be extremely proud of their Table Tennis performances over the last six months, they have been a credit to the School and deserve huge congratulations. Their success and enthusiasm has inspired and motivated many other pupils to join the Table Tennis club and thanks to them, there is a real ‘buzz’ around school about this amazing Sport. In their final match they came up against a very good Reading School side, and on a different day, we could have been the team making our way to the National Finals.”
