‘Tea-Riffic’ Year Nine Teatime Concert
On Wednesday 1 February, RGS Worcester hosted our first Teatime concert of 2023, performed by students in Year Nine. Setting the tone for the showcase of talent from our Year Nine musicians, the afternoon concert opened with Rachel Crookall playing ‘Memory’ from Cats on the harp. Elizabeth Kaleniuk played a spirited jig on the trumpet and Roisin Hale confidently performed a piece called ‘Movie Buster’ on the saxophone. Callum Munday entertained the audience with a lovely arrangement of ‘Castle on a Cloud’ from Les Misérables on his bassoon. Emily Jackson played the ‘Tango’ on her violin whilst, also on violins, Rosa Rega and Becca Gardner played a well-planned version of Pachelbel’s ‘Canon’.
Isla Goold and Harriet Murphy both sang in the concert, performing Bach/Gounod’s ‘Ave Maria’ and Beethoven’s ‘Ich liebe dich’ respectively. There was also some evocative piano playing in the concert: Ozzy Beswick’s ‘Moonbeams’ and Sophie Fisher’s ‘Arctic Night’ were delicate and gentle, whilst Heidi Porter’s ‘The Spanish Guitar’ provided a flavour of Spain. Sihan Fu impressed with a flashy sonata movement by Haydn before Jai Sanehi closed the concert with his piano with a rousing rendition of Queen’s ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’.
All of the performers were mature, confident and modest and received numerous rounds of applause for their impressive performances.
Thank you to our audience for joining us for this Teatime concert and a special mention of thanks to our Year Nine musicians who made the afternoon such an enjoyable occasion.
