RGS Worcester Hosts Young Fashion Designer UK Competition
On Saturday 10 June, RGS Worcester hosted the finalists for the Young Fashion Designer UK Competition. Out of 150 entries from more than 50 schools across the Midlands, twelve finalists were selected to exhibit their work. Pupils from Years Seven to the Lower Sixth at schools as far as Cardiff, Manchester and Derbyshire and several counties in between, joined us for the morning where they showcased their work on sustainability in Fashion and Textiles and had the opportunity to talk about their design and manufacturing processes with industry professionals who judge the competition.
The quality of work on display was exceptional and incredibly inspiring for all attendees. We were delighted that Year Eleven pupil, Frankie Reed was selected to represent RGS Worcester as a finalist in the GCSE category.
During the competition, the students took part in a practical workshop and enjoyed a talk and portfolio presentation from two previous competition winners about their careers in fashion design since winning the competition. The event also provided an opportunity to network and establish new friendships and we are incredibly proud of our pupils who were excellent ambassadors for RGS Worcester.
The finalists, parents and teachers thoroughly enjoyed the event which is a real celebration of excellence within Fashion and Textiles at GCSE and A Level. Congratulations Frankie and to all of the finalists and a special mention of thanks must go to everyone who made this event possible.
John Pitt, Headmaster, commented, “Thank you to our exceptional Textiles department for hosting YFDUK again and supporting the students so well. It was excellent to see the them make use of the Textiles facilities at RGS in their competition and celebrate the work that they completed which was very impressive. It was lovely to see Textiles thriving and RGS leading the way”.
