Sixth Form Student Sasha Wins National Piano Competition
We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Lower Sixth student Sasha Penlington, who triumphed in a highly prestigious national piano competition, claiming first prize amidst exceptional talent.
The piano competition began with over 100 competitors from across the country submitting recordings for the first round. From this impressive group, just ten pianists advanced to the finals, where the performance standard was described as exceeding Diploma level. The final took place last Sunday at the Broughton Piano showroom, where competitors had the opportunity to play on the Shigeru Kawai SK-EX concert grand piano provided by Kawai.
With her maturity, poise, and exquisite playing, Sasha impressed the adjudicators, renowned pianists David Quigley and George Rowley. Sasha was awarded first prize, receiving £500 and a trophy, while her piano teacher was gifted a piano in recognition of their guidance and support.
Reflecting on the experience, Sasha said: “It was a wonderful shock winning on Sunday. All the pianists were at an incredibly high standard, and I felt honoured to receive first place.”
Sasha says the event was made even more special by the warm and supportive atmosphere created by the Broughton Piano staff and the adjudicators.
Congratulations to Sasha for this remarkable achievement. We are immensely proud of her success!
