RGS Round-Up: Celebrating Success Across Our Community
We are delighted to share a selection of recent pupil and staff achievements, showcasing the breadth of talent, dedication and success within the RGS community.
Sienna and Vicky Heath – Forest of Dean Half Marathon
Congratulations to Sienna (Lower Sixth) and her mother, Deputy Registrar and Partnerships Officer, Victoria Heath, who both took part in the Forest of Dean Half Marathon. This was Sienna’s first experience of distance running, and she impressed by being named Youngest Female Finisher. Vicky also completed the challenging course in an impressive time of two and a half hours – a particularly strong performance given she hadn’t trained for the event!
Dream of Gerontius Performance
Two members of The RGS Family of Schools, Mrs Teala Dearden (Teacher at The Grange) and Teacher of Music at RGS Worcester, Mrs Claire Tilling, recently performed as part of the CBSO Chorus alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. The concert featured Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius, conducted by internationally acclaimed conductor Kazuki Yamada, with soloists Jess Dandy, Benjamin Hulett and Roderick Williams. The performance was recorded for BBC Radio 3 and was broadcast on Monday 22 September at 7.30pm, and is available on BBC Sounds.
Sporting Success for Max
Congratulations to Max Pearce, who was selected to take part in the England FA Under 15 Group Training Experience at the iconic St George’s Park. This is a fantastic achievement and an exciting step forward in his Football journey.
Musical Distinction for Isabelle Jones
We are delighted to congratulate Upper Sixth student, Isabelle Jones, who has achieved a Distinction in her Diploma Singing Exam. Isabelle’s repertoire included ten operatic pieces performed from memory, eight of which were in Latin, German, French and Italian – none of which she studies at GCSE or A Level. Appointed as this year’s Music Captain, Isabelle is also a valued member of both the Senior and Chamber Choirs. She has been tutored by Wilhelm Theunissen, whose expertise and encouragement have played an important part in her musical success.
GBR Fencing Selections for Emily and Henry
Congratulations to Year Nine pupil, Emily de Bono and her brother, Lower Sixth student Henry, who have both been selected to represent Great Britain in the Cadet Under 17 Épée category at the upcoming European Fencing Confederation (EFC) competitions in Budapest and Grenoble. This is an excellent achievement and a well-deserved opportunity for both fencers to gain valuable international experience.
