Pupils Watch Miss Walton Compete at Indoor Super Sixes Championships
On Sunday, Head of Hockey Miss Sally Walton OLY represented Sutton Coldfield at the Indoor Super Sixes Championships, with RGS pupils attending the national finals to support their teacher and experience elite-level indoor hockey.
Sutton Coldfield enjoyed an impressive run to the latter stages of the competition, securing their place in the semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over Holcombe in a tense, low-scoring encounter. The deadlock was finally broken with just 58 seconds remaining, when Miss Walton struck the decisive goal to send Sutton through.
In the final, Sutton faced East Grinstead, champions for the previous two years. A tightly contested and highly tactical match saw Sutton narrowly miss out on the title, eventually falling to a 2–1 defeat. Miss Walton was once again on the scoresheet, netting Sutton’s only goal of the final.
For the pupils in attendance, the championships provided an opportunity to watch elite-level indoor hockey in England and to see the Head of Hockey competing at the highest level of the sport.
