Podium Finish for RGS at Public Schools’ Fencing Competition
RGS Worcester pupils travelled to the Public Schools’ Fencing Competition at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre in North London last week, competing across two days of high-level national competition.
The event began with the Junior and Mount-Haes Boys’ Épée competitions, where Jack Nash and Harold Nash represented the School. Both progressed through the poule stages into the Direct Elimination rounds. Harold delivered an outstanding performance, reaching the last 16 to finish 16th out of 97, while Jack secured a strong result, finishing 52nd out of 109.
On the second day, pupils competed across a range of categories. In the Mount-Haes Boys’ Foil, Sean Yang showed determination in a secondary discipline, narrowly missing progression beyond the poule stages. In the Mount-Haes Girls’ Épée, Emily De Bono produced an excellent performance, advancing through to the quarter-finals and finishing 7th, earning a plaque.
In the Senior Girls’ Épée, Issy Pottinger impressed in the early rounds, winning the majority of her poule matches before progressing to the Direct Elimination stage, where she finished 24th out of 61.
In the Senior Boys’ Épée, Joseph Kington progressed strongly through both poule rounds and into the last 16, finishing an excellent 14th out of 123 competitors. Henry De Bono delivered one of the standout performances of the competition, progressing through to the final and finishing in a superb second place after a series of assured and composed bouts.
Across the two days, all pupils competed with determination and composure in a demanding and highly competitive environment. Well done to all involved on an excellent set of performances.
