National Football Recognition for RGS Pupils
RGS Worcester is proud to celebrate a series of outstanding Football achievements by our pupils, who have represented both the School and the country with distinction. From earning England caps to playing pivotal roles in high-profile international fixtures, these recent successes highlight the strength of talent within the RGS community. With three pupils gaining national recognition through the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA), their determination, skill and sportsmanship have shone through on the pitch. Read below to find out more about their exceptional performances.
Year Nine Pupil Receives England Cap
Congratulations to Year Nine pupil Max Pearce, who has achieved the remarkable honour of being selected to represent the England Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) Under 14 team. Max earned his England Cap as he took to the field in an international fixture against the Welsh Schools FA on Monday 5 May.
Max’s selection came after a rigorous process, having been chosen from a pool of 48 talented players who attended multiple training camps over the past year. Despite carrying a thigh injury, Max impressed the coaches at a final training camp in Macclesfield and was named in the final squad of 16 players.
On match day, Max started the game and played the opening 30 minutes, delivering a strong performance and helping to keep the opposition at bay. He left the field with the score still 0-0, not having conceded a goal during his time on the pitch. Unfortunately, Wales scored soon after Max’s departure and led 1-0 at half-time. Although England missed an opportunity to equalise with a penalty early in the second half, Wales eventually took control of the game and secured a 4-0 victory.
It was a proud occasion for Max and his family with his England Cap representing a significant individual achievement. Notably, two RGS Worcester Year Eleven pupils were also involved in the Under 16s game played earlier that day, further highlighting the strength of footballing talent across the school.
We are incredibly proud of Max and other RGS players who continue to excel on the national stage.
Year Eleven Duo Earn National Football Honours
Congratulations to Year Eleven pupils Max Kilby and Theo Houston, who have both earned Caps for the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) National Under 16 Team in a competitive end of season fixture against the Welsh Schools FA. The match took place in May at Ocean Park Stadium in Cardiff. Following the playing of the national anthems, Wales made a strong start, putting early pressure on the ISFA defence. However, the back line, featuring Max Kilby at right back stood firm, with Max making several crucial blocks and interceptions. At the other end of the pitch, Theo Houston produced a composed and confident display in goal, ensuring ISFA reached half-time with a clean sheet. Just before the break, ISFA capitalised on a well-worked move to take a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, both RGS players were substituted as part of the ISFA rotation. Their absence was felt almost immediately, as Wales turned the game around with two quick goals to take a 2-1 lead. Max was later reintroduced in a bid to regain control, helping to stabilise the team and drive a spirited effort to equalise. Despite creating several promising chances, ISFA were unable to break through again, and the match ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat.
Both Max and Theo have been key contributors to the ISFA squad throughout the season and can be immensely proud of their performances. Their selection and success at national level are outstanding achievements, and they thoroughly deserve their well-earned Caps.
