England Selection Camp Call Up for Goalkeeper Theo
Year Nine pupil Theo Houston has recently attended a four-day England Men’s Under 15 Selection Camp at St George’s Park, the home of the England National Football teams.
Theo signed for Aston Villa’s football academy from Kidderminster Harriers in July 2022 and then caught the eyes of the England selectors with some impressive performances for his new club in the early weeks of the season. He was placed on standby for a selection camp in October before receiving a call up for the camp in December.
With 26 players attending the camp from some of the country’s finest football academies, it was a great opportunity to train with, and compete against, some of the best young Football players in the country and continue his football development. The camp consisted of internal training matches and the opportunity for goalkeeper specific training sessions with the England Under 19 goalkeeping coach.
Staying in the impressive Hilton Hotel at St George’s Park, the boys also enjoyed socialising off the pitch, with table tennis competitions, use of the pool and hydrotherapy facilities and watching the World Cup final together.
Theo comments that he felt: “Very fortunate to have had this fantastic opportunity with England and gained useful feedback from the coaches to take back to his club”. Theo hopes to continue to develop his Football over the course of the season and beyond. He will also be attending the Independent School Football Association (ISFA) Tournament at Easter.
Whilst training five times a week at Aston Villa is demanding, Theo has been determined to keep his hand in other sports he enjoys. He currently trains at Under 18 County Tennis level and enjoys representing RGS Worcester in a range of other sports such as Rugby, Football, Hockey, Cricket, Athletics, Basketball, Tennis and Table Tennis.
Huge congratulations to Theo for his continued Sports achievements. We wish him the very best of luck for his Tournament at Easter and look forward to supporting Theo with his continued development in the Sports he enjoys.
