A Warm Welcome to Our Newest House Members
In special assemblies on Wednesday, pupils were officially welcomed back to the RGS Worcester House system, marking the beginning of their journey within one of the School’s four Houses: Elgar, Ottley, Wylde, or Whiteladies. Each House gathered in its new hub for the academic year – Elgar in the Main Hall, Ottley in the Performing Arts Centre, Whiteladies in Perrins Hall, and Wylde in the Lecture Theatre – spaces where pupils will meet weekly as part of their House community.
The assembly also marked a transition in leadership, as Dr Abby Davison was welcomed as the new Senior House Leader. Pupils were introduced to the wide variety of House activities and competitions that will run throughout the year, giving them the chance to explore their talents, collaborate with others, and form lasting friendships.
Much-anticipated favourites such as House Dance and House Rowing will once again feature in the calendar. In addition, pupils can look forward to an engaging programme of events ranging from Poetry, Rugby, and General Knowledge to Pumpkin Carving, Hockey, Cipher Challenge, Dance and Model-making. The first event in the House calendar took place today with the much-loved 362 race in the Quad, a fast-paced relay that challenges pupils to complete a set distance in a series of exciting stages, bringing together speed, strategy, and teamwork.
The House system is more than a School tradition; it is an important part of tradition and school life at RGS. With pupils and staff proudly representing their Houses, the competitions bring the community together in friendly rivalry, encouraging teamwork, leadership and personal growth. For our newest pupils, joining a House offers a sense of belonging and the opportunity to participate fully in life at RGS.
