1st VII Netballers Celebrate National Success and Prepare for ‘Superball’
‘Sisters ‘n Sport’ National Finals
On Thursday 12 March, the 1st VII Netball team competed in the ‘Final Fours Day’ of the national ‘Sisters ‘n Sport’ competition at Loughborough University, following an impressive run of performances across the last two terms.
The team demonstrated excellent skill and teamwork throughout the competition, securing results against strong opposition including Repton School, The Crypt School and Rugby School to earn their place among the top four schools in the country.
In their opening match on Finals Day, RGS faced St John’s School, Leatherhead. Despite a determined performance in a closely contested game, the team were narrowly defeated, placing them into the 3rd/4th place play-off against Samuel Whitbread Academy.
The final match proved to be a closely fought contest. The team showed resilience, composure and intensity throughout, executing their play with precision under pressure. RGS secured a well-earned 23-21 result to claim third place nationally for the second year in a row.
This outstanding achievement reflects the team’s hard work, commitment and unity across the season and marks a second consecutive year reaching the Final Fours of this national competition. A special mention must go Bella Heywood, who was named Player of the Match in the 3rd/4th place play-off!
‘Superball’
Looking ahead, attention now turns to one of the most anticipated sporting events in the School calendar. ‘Superball 2026’ will take place on Saturday 21 March at the University of Worcester Arena, as RGS Worcester take on King’s School Worcester. The 2nd VII match begins at 3.45pm, followed by the 1st VII fixture at 6.00pm.
‘Superball’ has become a highlight of the year, with over 1,500 spectators creating an exceptional atmosphere in celebration of girls’ sport. Last year saw the 1st VII secure a 26-22 win over King’s, claiming the trophy for the seventh time in nine years and this year’s sold-out event (on the RGS side) promises to be another memorable occasion.
