RGS Alumna Excels Both On and Off the Hockey Field
We are delighted to share an update about RGS alumna, Alice Atkinson who is experiencing continued academic and sporting success. Alice joined RGS The Grange in Year One and started playing Hockey when she started at the School. Alice played Hockey for Stourport Hockey Club and represented RGS Worcester in the Hockey 1st XI and Netball 1st VII, including playing in our high prestige matches for the Severn Shield in Hockey and in ‘Superball’. She was selected to train with the England Under 18 Hockey squad when she was only 16 years and then played at Under 21 level for England in international fixtures in Europe and was selected for the England Under 23 squad.
Alice was also a member of the RGS Athlete Development Programme (ADP) during her time at RGS and was on the ‘Elite’ Pathway, receiving an individual mentor, with whom she met fortnightly to discuss her progress, and received nutrition, psychology, time management, game analysis and leadership guidance.
Alice excelled in all areas of School life and was delighted to achieve superb A Level results alongside her achievements in Sport. Since leaving RGS last summer, she has settled in well to life at the University of Birmingham. While studying for her Degree in Chemistry, Alice has been busy continuing her progress in Hockey by participating in England Hockey Camps and playing Premier League Hockey. She was delighted to hear recently that she has been selected for the Junior World Cup at the end of November into December, held in Chile. Alice has also trialled for the new GB transition squad that is being created – this is an academy-style squad that prepares athletes for the greater demands of the senior squad at international level.
Alice was surprised and delighted to be awarded the Haworth Chemistry Scholarship alongside her Sports Scholarship at the University of Birmingham. This is awarded to the top 10 Chemistry students and is determined by GCSE and A level results, which she completed at RGS.
University life is very busy for Alice as she continues to set her high standards in her studies alongside her fast moving Hockey career. We wish her every future success including at the World Cup and hope that she can help her team bring home the trophy!
