Nine Oxbridge Offers Reflect Breadth, Depth and Academic Ambition
Our support is also provided to former RGS students and two OEs achieved offers to study Classics and Maths, bringing the RGS total number of offers to nine.
Oxford offers have been received by:
- Ellen McGettigan (Geography)
- Harry Muir (Modern Languages)
- Hannah Agoston (Medicine)
- Martha Colclough (Theology)
- Isabelle Jones (History)
Cambridge offers have been received by:
- Sasha Penlington (History–Modern Languages)
- Joe Kington (Law)
These offers span a notably wide range of disciplines, underlining both the individual strengths of the pupils involved and the academic breadth of the Sixth Form.
What distinguishes the School’s Oxbridge preparation is its deliberate integration into Sixth Form life, rather than it being treated as an add-on or last-minute intervention. Support runs across both the Lower Sixth and Upper Sixth, with dedicated curriculum time built into the Future Ready provision, enabling students to engage with the process in a measured, reflective and purposeful way alongside their wider academic and co-curricular commitments.
Students benefit from close, individual mentoring with subject specialists who know them well and who challenge them to think beyond specifications. The emphasis is not on rehearsed answers, but on developing depth of understanding, intellectual curiosity and the confidence to engage critically with unfamiliar material — skills that are central to success at Oxford and Cambridge, and beyond.
At the start of the Upper Sixth, a Saturday Oxbridge applications workshop is held to demystify the process for both students and parents. Alumni currently studying at Oxford and Cambridge play a key role in the event, offering first-hand insight into the application journey and the academic demands of their courses, reinforcing a strong sense of continuity and community.
A structured programme of practice interviews runs throughout the application cycle, giving students repeated opportunities to articulate their thinking clearly, respond under pressure and refine their academic voice. Particular emphasis is placed on remote interview preparation to ensure students are confident in both the intellectual and practical demands of the modern interview process.
Alongside this, students receive careful, individualised guidance on personal statements, college choices and UCAS applications. The aim is to secure offers and ensure that students approach the process with assurance, resilience and a genuine sense of ownership over their academic journey.
In this way, Oxbridge preparation at the School reflects a broader Sixth Form philosophy – one that prioritises intellectual maturity, thoughtful scholarship and confident preparation for the most demanding academic environments.
