Mrs Witcomb Serves up a Summer of Success at Wimbledon
This summer has been an exceptional one for our Director of Drama, Mrs Jilly Witcomb, who combined her passion for performance with a remarkable series of achievements on the Tennis court. Jilly’s passion and dedication to the sport took her from local tournaments to the iconic lawns of Wimbledon, making this a season to remember.
Mrs Witcomb began by representing Hereford and Worcester in the Over 35s County Event at Eastbourne, competing at a high level in an exciting and competitive environment. Soon afterwards, she returned to Wimbledon for the national finals of Play Your Way to Wimbledon, playing on the prestigious Aorangi courts for a third consecutive year. Mrs Witcomb and her partner secured a decisive doubles win before competing in a thrilling ladies’ doubles match that ended 13 – 11 in the deciding set. Narrowly missing out on progression, she described the atmosphere and opportunity to play on those courts again as “unforgettable”.
The summer continued with another remarkable appearance at Wimbledon, this time at the ITF Seniors Masters. Competing in the Ladies’ Over 45 Doubles, she reached the semi-final in a tightly fought contest that once again went the distance. To step out at Wimbledon twice in one summer was truly special, she shared.
Closer to home, she enjoyed further success in mixed doubles, winning both her club championships and the Malvern Grade 4 Over 40 tournaments.
Reflecting on her achievements, Mrs Witcomb highlighted not only the results but also the friendships, challenges and joy that the sport continues to bring. Her Tennis journey this summer is both inspiring and a reminder of the lifelong opportunities that come from pursuing a passion. Headmaster, John Pitt, commented, “Mrs Witcomb continues her Tennis success while also continuing to pursue her love of Drama and sharing this both in the classroom, in the wonderful ambitious RGS productions and even in her own performances on stage for the Drama department’s charity production. She is an inspiration to us all, balancing the demands upon her time and demonstrating there are no ceilings to success. Congratulations to Jilly.”
