Hockey Olympians Inspire RGS Pupils
To conclude this Half term, pupils had the exciting opportunity to join an online ‘live’ Question and Answer session with Olympians and Hockey legends, Kate and Helen Richardson-Walsh.
Kate Richardson-Walsh OBE and Helen Richardson-Walsh MBE, were both part of the GB team who won Gold at the 2016 Olympics and Bronze at the 2012 London Olympics.
Pupils from all Year groups joined the session and posed some excellent questions to the Olympians. Our senior 1st XI Captain, Lottie Atkinson, asked for advice about how to react to setbacks in a game and Lizzie Rhoden asked “With all you know now, what would you say, if you could, to your former 18 year old self?” Kate and Helen both agreed they would advise their younger selves to, “Just be happy with yourself and don’t try to be anyone else”. Amelia Lane challenged the Olympians asking “Which is most important – skills or mindset?” and our goalkeepers Keira Higgins and Sofia Stolt posed some excellent questions that provoked some reminiscing about the 2012 London Olympics with RGS’s very own Hockey Olympian, Miss Sally Walton.
Kate and Helen offered honest and heartfelt advice to our pupils from their wealth of experience as professional sportspeople and the audience watched and listened intently. We would all like to express our sincere thanks to Kate and Helen for creating an inspiring memory for our pupils and brightening up our ‘lockdown’ training.
