Co-Curricular News
Several co-curricular activities have resumed over the last few weeks, although some have returned in a slightly different format to usual. The fencers have set up their pistes in between the dining tables in Cobham Hall, the musicians have taken up residence in Perrins Hall and the Billingham Society has moved online to accommodate its 150+ members.
The School’s Debating Society welcomed a prodigious number of novice debaters earlier in the week, as interested Year Sevens enjoyed their first introductory meeting in the Lecture Theatre. A few days earlier some of the Society’s more experienced members competed in the first competition of the year, the prestigious Ladies Open hosted online by St. Paul’s Girls School.
The School’s decision to start with summer sports has been rewarded with some fine weather and it has been great to see cricket fixtures taking place on Flagge Meadow and St Oswald’s. The opening rounds have also taken place for House Badminton, and the House Senior Dance competition has been launched with choreographers being set the theme of ‘Freedom’.
In Drama, the cast of ‘Bugsy’ has started filming various scenes as they look to produce a specially adapted COVID-safe version of the play.
The Music department has reconfigured all its regular ensembles and choirs to ensure rehearsals can take place within Year group bubbles and a number of lessons have also relocated to the garrets of Whiteladies. This has meant the neighbouring offices and the Quad are often now serenaded by a variety of instruments at all times of the day.
