1st XV Rugby Captain represents the Midlands
Upper Sixth student and Captain of the 1st XV RGS Rugby team, Ben Gaubert has had an excellent run playing representative Rugby during this 2021-22 season.
Ben, who also plays Rugby at his local club, Malvern RFC Colts, received the opportunity to Captain the Worcestershire Under 18 County side, playing Herefordshire and Greater Birmingham in October 2021, with further opportunity arising for him to form part of an undefeated, North Midlands Under 18 side, playing in fixtures in December and January against the East Midlands, Warwickshire and Staffordshire.
Ben was next asked to represent the Midlands in an Under 18 England Divisional fixture against The North in February. Unfortunately, this fixture was cancelled due to flooding resulting from storms Eunice and Franklin, however, Ben did get the chance to represent the Midlands a week later, in a tight and competitive game against London and the Southeast.
To top it all, Ben recently attended a two-day residential England Camp for England Counties at Warwick School and Warwick University. To be selected to take part in such a prestigious camp is testament to Ben’s skill, hard work and dedication to Rugby and was a great opportunity for Ben to learn from the superb coaching offered alongside other players, also at the top of their game.
Head of Rugby, Rob Lewis, said: “Well done to Ben who deserves everything he has achieved this season and in his flourishing Rugby career. Ben’s ability to lead others in the school environment has developed into strong leadership skills, essential in both the wider world of Rugby and beyond. During his time at RGS, Ben has represented the School tremendously and is an outstanding role model for younger pupils. We are very proud of all that he has achieved and wish him continued success.”
